Les Anses d'Arlet
Les Anses d'ArletLes Anses d’Arlet Martinique: Pictures and description
A fishing community in the southwest of Martinique, Les Anses d’Arlet has lost none of its Creole authenticity. This charming town, well preserved from excessive tourism, benefits from a delightful white sand beach that boaters at anchor in the bay appreciate.
The story :
"Arlet" and his brother "Pilote" (who gave his name to the village of Case Pilote), were Caribbean chiefs who negotiated the sharing of the island with the first settlers. They left his name in gratitude to the district where a parish was built by the Jesuits.
Les Anses d’Arlet is divided into three distinct areas.
In the center, old wooden Creole houses make up the village and contribute to the serene calm of the town facing the beach. This is also very pleasant because it is not very busy (at least during the week). The sand is white and the sea is turquoise... A few meters from the shore, an emerging rock shelters a crowd of small tricolor fish, ideal for swimmers with masks and snorkels!
To the north, towards Trois Rivières, Grande Anse is home to a long and beautiful beach of golden sand lined with coconut trees and small shops. It is one of the fairly popular beaches on the island where Martinicans meet on weekends with their families.
To the south towards Le Diamant, Petite Anse is a fishing hamlet. Its pebble beach does not present any particular charm.
What activities are there to do?
Les Anses d'Arlet are close to the most beautiful beaches in Martinique. Among these, 2 beaches are to be discovered to the west of the town: Anse Dufour and Anse Noire.
Anse Dufour is mainly known for its golden sand, its calm and clear waters, and its peaceful atmosphere. It is surrounded by coconut trees and small beach restaurants where you can taste local dishes. Anse Dufour is also an excellent place for snorkeling, with plenty of tropical fish and coral to explore.
As for Anse Noire, it owes its name to its black volcanic sand, which creates a striking contrast with the turquoise sea. It is located near Anse Dufour and is also popular with divers and snorkeling enthusiasts. Sea turtles are frequently seen on this beach.
