Oyster Pond
Oyster PondOyster Pond is a sector located in the French part of St Martin.
It is situated at the border of the Dutch side of the island, by "Baie Lucas" and "the Oyster Pond".
Things to know about Oyster Pond
Its name comes from its proximity to the cove known as "the Oyster Pond"This mangrove has since been destroyed, but the name remains unchanged.
In 2013, the Oyster Pond Free Association voted to transfer a 4.7-hectare parcel of land it owned at Babit Point to the Conservatoire du Littoral.
As a result, Babit Point is now permanently protected, covering an area of 6.5 hectares.
The Conservatoire du Littoral and the St Martin Nature Reserve, in collaboration with local residents, will soon undertake a project of ecological and landscape restoration on this site, along with the development of a discovery trail to make it accessible to visitors.
The flora of Oyster Pond will be preserved, and the decisions made represent a great example of combining the preservation of a natural site with responsible tourism.
